Explore and Discover

Welcome to the Rouge neighbourhood! Located on Toronto’s east side, this area offers the best of both worlds – a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle, yet close enough to explore all of that Toronto has to offer. Here are some of our favourite local spots – most within walking distance or easily accessible by public transit. Each one is a local gem, easy to get to, and well worth a visit.

  • Just 3 km away, you’ll find Rouge Beach — a beautiful spot for a walk, picnic, or to catch a stunning sunset. You can also explore the Scarborough section of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, perfect for a scenic stroll or bike ride along the shores of Lake Ontario.
  • Only 2.5 away, you’ll reach Rouge National Urban Park, a fantastic spot for hiking! We recommend the 5 km Mast Trail, and if you’re up for a longer adventure, you can easily add the Vista or Orchard Trails for extra distance and views.
  • About 3 km away is Colonel Danforth Park, a peaceful, tree-covered park that’s perfect for a quiet walk or picnic. The trail here also connects directly to the Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail.
  • The University of Toronto Scarborough Campus a lovely, green campus with walking and biking paths that lead through Rouge Valley, connecting to Colonel Danforth Park and the Waterfront Trail is only a mere 4km away.
  • And just 5 km away is the Toronto Zoo — a world-class attraction and the largest zoo in Canada!
  • Less than 200 metres, you’ll find a Metro grocery store, Shoppers Drug Mart, the lovely family run Port Union Bakery — super convenient for anything you might need during your stay.
  • Also within 1 km are some great locally owned shops, including an artisan gift shop, a florist, a nail salon, a hair salon and a couple of vintage and thrift stores to browse through.
  • When it comes to food, you’ll be spoiled for choice! There are restaurants serving Thai, Italian, Japanese, Caribbean, Afghan, British, and more — all just a short walk or quick drive away.
  • Downtown Toronto is easy to reach whether you’re driving or taking public transit. We’re about 1 km from Rouge Hill GO Station, where you can hop on a train to Union Station — you’ll be downtown in about 30 minutes! From there, you’ll have access to amazing shopping, museums, theatres, and restaurants all across the city.
  • If you’re heading downtown, be sure to check out Toronto Island Park, accessible by ferry from the waterfront. It’s a local favourite with beaches, an amusement park, a small farm, and plenty of walking and biking trails — a great escape with beautiful views of the city skyline.
  • For a fun day trip, Canada’s Wonderland is about a 40-minute drive away. It’s a huge amusement park with over 200 attractions, including 18 roller coasters and a full water park — perfect for thrill-seekers and families alike.
  • If rollercoasters are not your thing and you would rather relax at a spa Thermea Spa Village Whitby is only 20-minute drive away.
